Reading Intervention: LLI and Read Write Inc.

Seville Road State School is committed to every child being literate - being able to read and write.

We explicitly teach our students how to read. Using the research about the steps to be successful readers, our early years teachers develop oral language, phonological awareness, concepts of print, phonics and vocabulary.

As these are learned to automaticity, students develop fluency. It is then that comprehension (understanding what is read) can be developed.

These skills are constantly revisited, revised and reinforced through daily guided reading lessons in all year levels - prep - year 6. Teaching CORE skills in decoding and reading develops successful readers!

Our Reading Intervention lessons use the current research and through modelled and shared reading, children learn to read complex texts, grammar concepts and comprehension. They also learn the relationship between reading and language through discussion and repetition of letter sounds and parts of vocab in developmental sequence, at individual level and pace.
